As good as this movie is I am often reluctant to repeat viewings due to the overly long character introduction which in my opinion could have been half the time and the saved time spent more effectively elsewhere in the film. This movie provides a great experience. Although Mrs, or Ms. Hatchet performed her job requirements well, her interest in her patients progress to get better had little to no effect as to what Randy provided. For instance, Randy taught chief how to make dunk a basketball through the hoop of a basketball rim. Quite honestly, as a man who hasn't had physical interactions with a woman(by choice) for over 2 years now, I believe there is a lot of honor and pride to take in from having a sexual experience with a woman, and beautiful one at that. Did the nurse know that by giving Cheese-wick his cigarettes could have disengaged every possible outburst from the patients, after all, he is voluntarily there, and if it's pleasure he is seeking, is she not depriving him of one of the fundamental liberties? As for the temporal lobotomy that Murphy was subjected to in the end, to lose one's self-awareness, language, what even appeared to be motor function, and possibly a list more of losses. I have my first psychology class starting in the fall and am studying the heck out of it now as I usually do to get a head start on subjects. I believe there are better ways to handle aggression, and it must be done in non-invasive ways.

Sadly, we have, SURPASSED THIS TIME. I love this movie need I say more it's just great. The music is great. Absolute beautiful analysis and excellent use of the leitmotif. The ending is most strange. He looks at himself in the mirror, the odd ping in the audio, then his image vanishes. He died? He's dead or dreaming? I'm not sure. Reminds me of the ending in Bird Man. Who buys a movie just to dislike it. This movie is honestly amazing, I have read the book and fell in love with it, read and performed the play - loved it. This story a twisted, yet wonderful one. And I highly recommend the movie/play/book to anyone with an interest of human behavior and the interaction between people. just I simply love this movie.

The entire beginning of the movie paralleled my own life. Smoke stack town. The town I grew up in was polish but a lot like this Russian Orthodox church and wedding. we even had our wedding reception in a American Legion Hall. The old ladies acting the same. Deer hunting with my friends. And my wife said to me, that bar scene with them singing was just exactly like you and your boys. We probably had about 25 guys go to Vietnam from my area in those years and believe it or not we did not lose one guy. They all came home but some had thier share of problems.
